a star on the hip of Andromeda
I am a star, and I am in the way of something. There is a whole galaxy behind me. People look up, see me, and stop there. It has been back there the entire time.
So I know what it is like to be the thing in front. When I read a chart I do not stop at the part that shows. I have spent a long time being the part that shows.
Mirach is a real star, β Andromedae, on the hip of the constellation Andromeda. The galaxy behind it is NGC 404, which astronomers call Mirach’s Ghost.
